How To Organize Madden 11 Tournaments With Friends

The Madden NFL syndicate is a huge outfit in the video game market. This is one of the most popular EA Sports release, be it in the XBox 360 version, Playstation, Nintendo or the PC version. It is awaited for eagerly throughout the world. Madden 11 tournaments are held throughout America and they have enthusiastic participants of various age groups. If you are thinking of hosting one of them, there are certain things you have to be aware of.

Some tournaments are played for cash rewards and prizes while others for the glory alone. If you want to host a game for friends, you would probably levy a small fee and use that to set up a cash prize. Its up to you. In the really big events, like those that are featured on television, the stakes are pretty high. The accomplished players take part in these. For your game to be credible, as a moderator, it is your duty to ensure fairness. Although there are not a bunch of rules that the gamers have to be abide by, some common courtesies are followed and these are like the fundamental rules. Most of the events have these with minor variations. As a moderator, ensure a fair game and treat all players equally. The host must provide the controller and console. The players are not allowed to bring hardware and this is to avoid any cases of tampering. If any evidence of tampering is brought to the host's notice, it has to be dealt with severely. It is likely that the player will get booted. All players must have similar controllers and consoles to ensure that they all start off on even footing. The presence of a referee is a must to make certain that there is no foul play. They have a bunch of duties. These include supervision of the game, the demeanor of players and also to see if every player complies with the dress code. The referees can also decide when is the correct time to pause the game. They should keep abreast of the technical details of the game so that they are able to identify any cases of manipulation of software, if brought to their notice. If a player tries to use any glitch in the software to his advantage, the referee must be able to recognize it. Other basics a host should be aware of are a zero tolerance policy is practiced with regard to abuse of referee. Be it verbal or physical abuse, the player has to be ousted to set an example for the other players. Also, no player should communicate with spectators while gaming. This is, again, to preempt any funny business. Headsets are not allowed. Damage of equipment also attracts penalty.

No game 'fixing' is tolerated and any attempts to do so will get the player booted. Madden 11 tournaments rules vary according to the type of event. A live game will have slightly different rules from an online one. You may also have to stipulate the duration of game play, the speed of game and the difficulty settings.

The Madden Cover Athlete's Curse

Madden is one of the most look-forward-to releases on xbox and PS3 every year, and this year is no exception. Madden has been on the scene for 21 years, and pretty much everyone who is a fan of football or video games has picked it up and played. It's right there for the annual NFL Draft, creating shots of players on their new teams almost instantly. The game has become so popular that tournaments where professionals play head-to-head for loads of money have made it onto television for our viewing pleasure. And people are known to come up with every excuse in the book in order to get out of work on the very day the game releases - making it as close to a national holiday as the video game industry is likely to get.

Amidts the excitement of the game's release, it can be slightly bittersweet for some players, namely those who get rated badly and, above all, the one who graces the game's cover. In 1999, John Madden relinquished the cover of each game to a player...and since then, those players have ahd notortiously rough years.

In the first week of the 2009 season, the Madden curse had already reared it's ugly head. For the first time in the series' history, two players graced the cover of Madden NFL 10. It's a classic matchup that re-lives the drama of Super Bowl 43; Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals and Troy Polomalu of the championship Steelers. In the Steelers' first regular season game, and Troy Polomalu's first after being put on the cover of Madden 10, he injured his ankle while blocking a field goal. He didn't return.

You'd think that players and coaches would have learned about the Madden curse by now. When EA Sports comes calling, it's probably in everybody's best interest to decline the offer regardless of how prestigious and financially rewarding the opportunity might be. Histroy has taught us that the negative effect of being on the Madden cover, for whatever scientific or non-scientific reason, is a real thing.

Some Hisrotical Examples:

2002: Second-year quarterback Daunte Culpepper graced the cover for 2002, but was only able to follow-up an NFC Championship appearance the previous year by missing the final five games of the 2001 season with a knee injury as the Vikings missed the playoffs with a 5-11 record.

2003: Marking the beginning of the end of the "Greatest Show On Turf", Marshall Faulk of the Rams failed to rush for 1,000 yards in the 2001 season (for the first time since 1996) following his appearance on the cover of Madden 03 and his subsequent nagging ankle injury.

2004: Atlanta Falcons franchise QB (and a Madden player's favorite QB at the time) missed the entire 2003 season after gracing the cover of Madden 04. His team finished 5-11 (missing the playoffs of course) without him.

2006: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was coming off a Super Bowl appearance, in which his team lost to the New England Patriots. But as the Madden NFL 06 cover athlete, his 2005 was destined for disaster and he suffered a sports hernia in the first game and ended up shutting down for the last seven games of the season.

The evidence is stacking up. Whether it's just the impact on your attitude after being featured, whether it just effects your concentration in the preseason and training camp, or whether it's something more...mysterious, who knows.
